Hello all just signed up.

I have had a male parakeet for about 4 years now. I just tried to find info on 2 things he does that lead me to believe that he likes us. I couldn't find info on the exact things he does. Ya never know with a bird like a dog or cat...just hope hes happy.

#1 He slightly raises both wings (tucked) and maybe raises 1 foot as I enter the room and greet him.

#2 Sometimes when I greet him and talk to him he will open and close his mouth(no sound, none I can hear at least). Not in an attack stance I can be across the room talking to him and he'll do it.

I just get the feeling these are good things but that's an uneducated guess.

Thanks

Welcome to the group! These sound like good things to me too. It sounds to me like he may be stretching when he sees you, because he's hoping that you will play with him and he wants to be ready for action.

I don't really know about the mouth-opening, but it sounds like maybe he's mimicking your actions since he does it when you're talking. I haven't heard of other birds doing this exact same thing, but it sounds like flock behavior - he considers you to be a member of his flock so he's copying what you're doing.
