I wasn't suggesting that he actually replace the old cage. But if he does, it would be OK to put the new cage in the old spot. The cage itself would be unfamiliar territory, so Cheerio wouldn't have a motive to defend it against intruders.

It's a risk perhaps, but couldn't you just rearrange the interior of the old cage? So it looks like a new one? (Provided the cage is big enough for 2...
