Hello Little Feathered Buddies members!

I have a cockatiel named Moon. Moon has recently had a night fright from an animal attack. I brought all my birds inside my garage to keep them safe from that animal and one day I notice that Moon is limping on his left foot. I think Cloudia bit it when he wasn't giving her head scratches.

So now I have a little problem, How do I set up a hospital cage for him? I have this cage
http://www.americas-pet-store.com/uploa ... Cage~~.gif

Should I put low perches for him or should there just be a flat surface?
Moon puts his foot in his body 75% of the day. but he sometimes walks normally and he climbs the cage bars 25% of the day.
i just put a heating pad on the bottom of his cage and he didn't use it yet. i think he would use it if there only one perch in his cage

thank you for reading and trying to help out my Moony boy :D

I don't think Cloudia ingured him since I just looked back at some videos before I noticed that he injured it and I see that he was lifting it up in his body

Put an old pillow in a case on the bottom of his cage..that will lift him up off the bottom of the cage. Then place paper ontop of that... place a perch low down and a couple up higher...see how he likes that...
place his food/water dishes where he stands most.
Try this see if it helps...hope it will

Flat surface on the bottom and a low perch to give him options. Put the heating pad under half the cage so he can choose the temperature he prefers. Can you see any visible sign of injury on the foot, like swelling, cuts, or scrapes?

No, the foot looks completely normal, just limping and picking it up a lot.
But I took Stephanie's advice and we'll see how it goes.
Do you think it's possible for it to heal?

It depends on what the problem is. If it's just bruised it should heal just fine. It's possible that the bruise isn't on the foot itself; sometimes a problem higher up on the body will make it difficult to use the leg/foot. If something is actually broken or torn internally that's a bigger problem and skilled treatment is needed.

How do I find out what type of injury is it?
There aren't any vets here, not even a pet store that sells cockatiels :(
I get all my birds from the flea market, that's the only place that sells cockatiels. What should I do? I really want my Moon to be healed and walking normally. Is it reasonable if I can assume that is he doesn't heal in 2 months than I know that he has a broken bone? Or am I not giving enough time?

I just went online and I noticed that there is an exotic animal hospital, but it's a little far and I doubt my parents would take him there :(

It would be best to see a vet if you can. If that's not possible, are you on Facebook? You could ask Susanne (srtiels) on her ICR page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/ICR.unite/ If anyone knows the answer it would be her. There's an avian vet who's a member there who does online consulting I think, but I don't know what he charges. If you're not on FB I can ask Susanne if she could talk to you here.
