Do you think they aren't interested in breeding because last Friday, I out them in the aviary so that they can say hello to their friends? I put them there for a couple of hours until I finished cleaning their cage.
Georgie was in love with her! Wherever she went, he went! Even on the floor.

When I had to take Marshmallow out of the aviary, Georgie was not happy, he tried to attack me by flying at my face with full speed. He bit my fist and there was a mark followed by a bump after a few minutes.

I'm just guessing really, but if they wanted to breed again they would probably be plucking all the chicks, particularly the bigger ones who would naturally be the first ones to fledge.

I hope they aren't interested in breeding again right now, because they're not doing the world's greatest job of it and they'll probably be better parents when they're older. Since they are so young, maybe once is enough to satisfy them for now. Younger birds have the hormonal drive to fertilize the eggs but they don't seem to have as much drive to do the rest of the job, and I suspect that their hormone levels aren't as strong as an older bird. Less hormones would mean less interest in double clutching.

Here are some ideas.

1. Georgie sounds pretty hormonal so he might be a good foster parent. Introduce him to the babies when Marshmallow and Bio aren't around to see if he'll feed them. Watch the situation VERY carefully though in case he gets aggressive with the babies.

2. Get up half an hour earlier in the morning to feed the babies before you go to school. Not fun I know, but we accept responsibility for the babies when we hang up the nestbox, and they need to be fed.

3. Do you live close enough to the school to come home for lunch? If so, you could feed the babies then.

4. Is it possible to get permission to take the babies to school and feed them during a free period?

I heated Bio whistle which was pretty rare since after he mated.

Marshmallow was doing the hen mating position and Bio was about to mate :yikes:

OMG!! I removed Marshmallow immediately, but I remember he was whistling a few days ago! I didn't check because I was a little busy but I hope they didn't mate!

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this Baruch! I am homeschooled, and have never been in public school...... I'm sure things are really difficult for you. I really like being homeschooled because I get to hold my babies while I'm doing my school. Of course, I do keep all of my birds inside, (in my room!) Unlike you as I've read in your other posts. I wouldn't like keeping my birds in an outdoor aviary. I don't feel as if I could give good advice as I know you are more experienced with birds them me. By the way, great job tielfan! Good luck with you pair Baruch!

My breeding pair is inside my house. Since I live with my parents, I must obey their wishes, and they are right in a way. Birds are very dusty and I have allergies to their dust. But I get 2 shots every week to treat that. :)

When I am older, I am definitely keeling them in my house. But until them I have to appreciate that I actually have birds in the first place. That took a lot of convincing and it was SOO worth every penny :)

Long nights are tricky with breeding birds. If you dampen their hormones too much they might stop taking care of the babies, and this pair isn't doing a great job to start out with. But I discovered last year with my birds that giving them an 11-hour night was enough to stop them from double clutching without interfering with baby care.

But that was when the natural nights were shorter than that. The internet tells me that right now the days in southern Florida are about 12 1/2 hours long and the nights are 11 1/2 hours. So if you want to use long nights, I'd go with 12 hours to be a little longer than the real nights. You're taking a risk though that they might stop feeding the babies completely if their hormone levels drop any lower.

If you don't have one already, a true-HEPA air purifier will help reduce the tiel dust and other allergens.

Now that they've shown a definite interest in double clutching, I'm having mixed feelings about playing cuckoo calls to them. Hearing other birds engaging in courtship/mating behavior can stimulate the hormones, and I don't know what the cuckoos sound like or how your cockatiels are interpreting the sounds.

Find a youtube video that has the sound of a cockatiel baby being fed and try playing that for them. Hopefully this will send the message of "feed the babies" without saying "make more babies".
