The weight of my babies includes food in the crop too so they should be reasonably comparable to yours.

The parent birds will relax as time goes by. My birds have the same routine every year - while they have eggs or tiny babies in the nest they resent any intrusion. When the babies get older they don't mind any more and they barely seem to notice when I put my hand in the nest.

Chick #3 has hatched. Chick looks good and is another light yellow. Chick #1 is 15g today and chick #2 is 11g. We got to see Bitsy and Roscoe feeding them. The parents themselves have been very busy eating. They seem to be doing a really good job.

It looks so sweet when the parents are feeding a tiny chick. Their movements are so gentle, but later on it will be more of a jackhammer motion.

It was so exciting seeing them be parents. I will a little surprised because they both were feeding the same chick. I sure will be glad when they settle down and are not afraid of me handling the little ones. I am always are little nervous that by accident they will hurt a little one.

If the parent birds freak out when you put your hand in the nest, you need to scoop them away from the babies/eggs as quickly as possible so the chicks don't get trampled while the parent is fighting with you. Watch the parent's feet carefully while you're scooping to make sure a baby doesn't get caught up in the adult's claws. You might get bitten but that's the price you pay for sticking your hand in a nest lol.

When the oldest baby is about a week old the parents will start spending most of their time out of the nest. It's a lot easier to get into the nestbox when the parents aren't inside.

Right now, my pair never goes into the nestbox! If course the babys are 16 days....so tielfan said that was normal. Good luck!

It's normal for them to stay out of the nestbox most of the time. They should still be going in to feed the babies of course!

So here are the weights for today: chick #1 at 6 days 27g, chick #2 at 5 days 20g, chick #3 at 2 days 10g. All had full crops. They like to poo when I put them on the scale except for Chick #3 who prefers to poo on me!! Parents are doing a good job. Sometimes they are in the nestbox together, sometimes only one is in the box. When I went to get them out tonight Bitsy was in the box and did not fight me very much. When I let go of her she got on my shoulder and stayed there as I handled her chicks.

My babies' weights at the same age:
6 days 26g
5 days 20g
2 days 8.5 g

Yours are almost exactly the same, so it looks like they're right on track!
