In the new home, which has three rooms instead of the two I have now, I want to dedicate one of them to crafts, and would love to go back to painting... but I am not sure whether that will be safe for the birdies.
They will have their own room but I like them to fly around the entire place once a day, so I need to make sure that they won't get poisoned if they accidentally land on something.
Do you know of a technique that doesn't require or contain dangerous chemicals? Obviously oil painting isn't an option. But what about tempera, or inks, or watercolours? Are they safe? Is it possible to buy non-toxic materials?
What about clay? I used to do pottery and remember having so much fun, but I need to make it safe.

All tempra paints sold in all kids craft departments are non-toxic and safe to use around birds.

I'm not sure about pottery clay. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this one.

Anything made for children will be nontoxic. With birds you have to be extra careful about fumes, but if you can open a window and have a fan blowing outward that will help.

For other materials, you can google for information on toxicity or read the label on the packaging. Apparently there are some nontoxic oil paints, for example: http://www.gamblincolors.com/studio.safety/ In general it will be a good idea to keep birds out of the craft room, for their safety and also to keep your craft work from being destroyed by naughty birds. I can't do cross stitching with Shodu in the room because she's obsessed with stealing the needle lol.

I agree, especially since the OP said the birds have their own room. Let them have their room and the OP can have her room.

The OP likes to spend as much time with them as humanely possible :D
I will have to find a way to keep them out of trouble.

You could do what a local bird rescue does and sell paintings!
