I really want to discourage another clutch for now. Can I use long night treatment? They have all been settling for night between 5 and 6 so it would be easy to put them on 14 hours of darkness. The chicks, Bitsy and Roscoe are in the same cage.
I took the breeder box down today and had it sitting in a corner of the room until I can clean it and put it away. Don't you know Roscoe and Bitsy found it and are in and out of it. Of course I will move it where they can't get to it.

Long nights are tricky with breeding birds. If you dampen their hormones too much they might stop taking care of their babies. Give them no longer then an 11-hour night to stop them from double clutching without interfering with baby care.

Yes, make the nights about half an hour longer than the natural nights until the babies are weaned. You want to send the message that the days are starting to get shorter and it's not a good time to start a new clutch, but not clamp down on them so hard that they lose interest in feeding the babies.
