I got Silver in March of this year. He was finger tame right away. However, he's never allowed me to touch his head. Emma won't let me touch her with my finger either. I've been really envious of owners that have birds who will let them pet their heads.
I've been playing a game with Silver for some time. I chant "do do do do DO!" and, unless he moves away, I touch my nose lightly to his beak on the last DO.
Yesterday, he let my nose touch the top of his head. And, today, he let me rub my nose back and forth on his crest, and seemed to want even more. I was thrilled. By the way, he smells lovely!

That's amazing! That's the best present an owner can ever get from a bird.

It's so exciting when you can do that. I remember when I could pet Jaiden. He grew out of it, unfortunately. But I can still give them both a good sniff. They do smell lovely.

Congratulations on the progress! A lot of birds will accept a nose rub better than they'll accept a finger rub, even though a human head is a LOT bigger then a hand. Some of my birds started out with nose rubs, and occasionally in the middle of a session I would sneak my finger in when the bird wasn't paying attention and rub with that instead of the nose. The bird would get mad when he realized what I was doing, but after it happened a few times he didn't care any more and let me go straight to finger-rubbing.

That's an amazing progress! I am trying to have Sam, my last add to the flock, let me touch him but at the moment no luck. He'll come close, sit on the shoulder or the head, but touching him is a big no no. It's killing me, he's so adorable I'd like to smother him with kisses! You are a good trainer, Dianne, I'd have never thought of a game like that!
