I love the way they drew the plans for the first link, I just don't like the actual aviary because it's ugly lol. The plans show all the different components and how they fit together which is wonderful. Plans don't have to be that artistic but you do want enough clarity that other people can easily understand what you're aiming at, especially if someone else is doing the building.

The person in the second link said they used the Paint program to draw their plans. So if you have a computer program that will work for this purpose, that's another way you can do it.

For aviaries with complicated floor plans it's good to draw a top view of the layout. If you're going to have a safety corridor it might be helpful to make a top-view drawing. You can see a simple top-view drawing at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Aviary_2.png and a more complicated one at http://www.stokerarch.com/web/resume/Ne ... aviary.jpg The plans show which way the doors swing open - it might be easier to understand on the first link than on the second one.

You wanted to have a removable partition, and the top view drawing is a good way to show where it will go.

I too found the aviary disturbing lol. I am not artistic at all. I basically want the new aviary to look like my aviary that I have now but with a concrete floor, a gamble roof, and safe hardware cloth.

How do I make a removable partition. I think this might be a question for the professional.

I'm going to use paint on the computer to write down the plans. I tried drawing it and it didn't come out well (I only drew the concrete lol)

Personally I don't know how to use Paint and I can barely draw a stick figure, so people would have to take what I can give them lol.

My suggestion for the partition would be to use several small panels that can be attached together to make a wall, but can be easily carried in and out of the aviary when they're not linked together. There just isn't room in an aviary to move big pieces in and out.

The original door on my aviary is sort of an example. It was built as a Dutch door, meaning that the top and bottom halves were basically two separate doors that opened and closed independently of each other. I thought that this was a nuisance so I fastened them together with straight brackets and now it opens and closes as a single door. But I could make them separate again at any time just by unscrewing the brackets. Here's a picture:

Notice how there's a lock for the top part and a separate lock for the bottom, and each section has its own set of hinges. That's because they're really two different doors.

There are two different ways you could use this concept. You need a removable door in any case so you can get into the part of the aviary that's being blocked off. You could make the rest of the partition wall in small linked panels so you can take it out completely when you're not using it, or you could keep the partition in there permanently and just have a removable door. All you'd have to do is unscrew the hinges when you're ready to take it down, and separate the two door panels if you're using a two-part door like mine. Then carry it out and you're done, and the birds are free to go through the open doorway whenever they want to.

I can't draw even with Photoshop lol. But here's a crude drawing of a couple of possibilities. The first one is basically my aviary, and if I wanted to partition off part of it I'd just put a door in the current opening because it's narrow and nothing else is really needed. The second one is a wider version of the same aviary, where you need more than just a door to close the area off.

Just to clarify on the roof types, you want to have a gable roof. There's a different type that's called a gambrel roof, and the names are so similar that it's easy to get mixed up. Here's the roof style illustration again:

My aviary doesn't have a lot of special amenities but it does have a boardwalk at the top that the birds love, and it has a wire shelf that's very practical for me. The birds like to hang out on it too.

The last time I had a board walk in my aviary was with Bio (Marshmallow wasn't even born). He loved that board walk so much. He would sleep and play their for almost the whole day to the point where if I came and tried to touch him, he would try to bite me. After an accident happened, we had to make the aviary double wired which meant closing it off with chicken wire. After we got rid of it, he was so friendly with me. I don't think it would want a board walk for them because I love them and I would want them to love me back.

Where do you think it's better to put the door, on the side, or in the middle?
