You may remember that Emma (female cockatiel) and Piper (male budgie) have been bonded for some time. Piper mates with her. Despite long nights, it happens at least twice a day. Sometimes she gets fed up with his attentions. With that introduction, here is where she's going when she's had enough of Piper:

She knows how to hide! My Cloudia gets so annoyed from Tommy, Levy, and Rio. They are all constantly wooing her. They already found all her hiding spots. Can Piper fly there?

Piper hasn't flown there yet. I'm sure he's able. However, I think it would be hard for him to get into a position preliminary to mounting on the boing. When Emma flies to it, she lands on the bottom. It swings back and forth. Then, she climbs up to the top, at tho it's a ladder.

Emma's been doing this for about a week, and Piper calls to her and is visibly frustrated that she won't come back.

The boing was up there for about three weeks before she started getting onto it. She's the only one of the three so far.

I'm glad she's found a place to retreat to.

I'm so relieved that her hiding place isn't a cozy little box somewhere! Instead she's going in the opposite direction and trying to avoid all that breeding stuff.

She is beautiful and so very clever. So the question is--since they are mating if she had a nestbox would she lay eggs and would they be fertile?

She could very well lay eggs but it's VERY unlikely that they woud be fertile. Budgies and cockatiels are from completely different groups - one is a grass parakeet and one is a cockatoo! Their genes wouldn't be compatible enough to produce viable young.

I am glad I haven't had to deal with eggs yet. I do keep them on long nights. However, I feel kind of bad for Piper. He's trying SO hard!
