One of my birds make these poops on the food bowl. I don't know how to explain it but I all know is that it's the shape of a worm and the color is not good. Image

I'm not good at poopology but that does look different. Susanne has some info on abnormal droppings here: http://tinypic.com/useralbum.php?ua=9f% ... FC5g%3D%3D

My suggestion would be to clean the aviary so you can tell the difference between new poop and old poop, then see if it happens again. Also keep an eye on the birds to see if anyone is acting abnormal. It can be hard to tell when you have a lot of birds, but especially try to see if everyone is eating.

If the odd poop doesn't happen again then it's no biggie. Bird poop isn't exactly identical every time and can vary depending on what they've been eating. It may not have been a real problem in the first place, and if it was a problem then it's fixed itself. If it does happen again you'll need to try to figure out which bird it's coming from and do something about it. There are some simple home remedies that can help with digestive upsets. Susanne has info on them here: http://tinypic.com/useralbum.php?ua=MNW ... F7fw%3D%3D

You might have some of these items at home already and it wouldn't hurt to give the whole flock a small amount in their food or water as a precaution. Susan prefers lemon juice over vinegar, but a little bit of vinegar would have pretty much the same effect as a little bit of lemon juice.

Thank you so much. They like pooping on the food bowls so I put a clean one that on the same spot that they pooped those. I'll be checking their poops frequently. Will some probiotics in their food help? I gave them the fruit blend nutriberries this morning. It had prunes in it and other goodies. The only think that changed was that I put a pot with millet grass and sunflowers in. Maybe they ate the dirt? I thought they were having worms because of the shape. I don't like bugs at all so I'm too afraid of opening the poop. I removed the flower pot because they finished all of the greens.

It's possible that they did eat the dirt, but as long as it wasn't contaminated with anything bad it's OK. Lots of birds eat dirt in the wild.

I don't see any worms in the poop, it's just a different texture than usual and there's a mix of colors but the colors don't look abnormal. If they're eating new foods that could be the reason for it.

The vinegar idea.... cider vinegar or just ordinary?

:thanks:

The standard answer is that it MUST be apple cider vinegar, but honestly I don't think there's any material difference between them. The only thing either one of them has in large quantity is acetic acid. ACV has a few molecules of nutrients that you don't get in regular vinegar, but you'd have to drink gallons of the stuff to get a significant amount.

The recommended vinegar dosage varies but personally I wouldn't go any higher than 1 teaspoon to 8 ounces of water. I'd probably do a bit less than that actually just because I'm a nervous nellie. I'd expect the same ratio to be reasonable for lemon juice. Watch to make sure the bird is still drinking the water because some birds won't drink water that tastes different.
