Thanks you! more pictures from both Carolyn and B would be great to see! My problem is that I don't have any handymen around, so it needs to be something easy. We were building rabbit hutch for many months and now we can only laugh at the result (it's miserable and barely useable)
Is chicken wire made of the same material? I never even thought to check on the safety of material. Do you think holes in chicken wire are large enough not to be safe?

Cloudy skies wrote: Oh wow, I'd love to see more pics of your aviary, Carolyn! Is it all under your porch or is some of it uncovered? Yours and B's aviaries are so cool. I like that they both look so easily cleaned, like you just basically round up the birds and then hose it down, something like that, right? I agree both are excellent...

I have seen pictures of Carolyn's aviary in another thread. Reminds me sauna (that's a compliment because of wood and shelves. What are the dimensions, Carolyn?DO you get birds in while they are in the house and then roll a whole thing out, or is it not that portable? Or do you have to carry all of them into the aviary?

I came up with the better and easier idea. I also have a front porch, it has a roof. I thought I would make two wooden frames with hardware cloth to just fill the empty sides. I should be good with two rectangular nor very large frames. Then I can just open the front door for them and roll their cage out to the front porch (for them to land on)
Drawbacks: they may start associating front door with a cool getaway, and this is not always the case. We don't want them to rush out every time somebody opens the door. I don't know what to do about it yet. Ideally would be train all of them to go into the cage.

It's just a play area, the birds don't actually live there, so cleaning mostly consists of changing the newspaper at the bottom from time to time and sweeping the floor. There's more on the aviary here: http://home.comcast.net/~ch_zonie/crafts-carpentry.htmlAmazing!

a question: if you were to make the same aviary for somebody, how much (including materials and labor) would you charge?
