I bought a True Hepa Air Purifier for my office where Peach's cage is. Guardian Technologies. It is for rooms up to 155 sq ft. The room is under that by quite a bit. My question is what is the best place to put it. My husband wants to put it across the room from the cage. I want it next to the cage but he is usually right about these things. I can see dander moving around the room but not exactly in the direction of the filter. I checked the filter pad and there is a little dander in there. It's been running since last night . Does it take a while to make a noticeable difference? Should I run it on high? Also, how important is it to keep the door closed. I hate to close the door when I'm not in there because she is isolated in the room then.

You might want to put it closer to the cage if it isn't picking up too much of the dander. My bird room air purifier is three or four feet away from the main cage. I prefer the lower speeds since the higher speeds are louder and more obnoxious.

Do you keep the door closed?

The solid door is usually open, although I built a screen door to help keep the birds in the bird room.

OK thanks. I think I'm seeing a difference today after 2 days running.

Caiques aren't as dusty as cockatiels. There are a few parrot species (cockatoos, cockatiels, African greys) that have powder down, which makes them extra dusty. Caiques don't have powder down, but there's bound to be some dust anyway so it's not a bad idea to get an air filter if you want one.

There is a remarkable difference with the filter. Neither my husband or I are coughing anymore.

If you a true HEPA, be sure to vacuum the tiel dust off the pre-filter from time to time.
