I got a most pleasant Mother's Day surprise today. Prince Ess is mine!!! The woman who won him at the Christmas raffle couldn't keep him any more so she gave him to me. Her neighbors were complaining about noise (even though he isn't a very noisy bird) and she's moving out of state in a couple of months. I told her that if she changed her mind she could have him back, but I think that most likely she won't change her mind. Now he can finally claim his true name, which is Dweezil.

He has his big boy tail now. I think his tail feathers might be longer than an entire cockatiel lol. But I can't check right now because I want to keep him separate from the tiels for a while.

Wow, I'm very happy for you Carolyn! Looks like you need to make some room on your signature now. I had a feeling somehow he would end up with you again.

I always felt like he belonged to me, and I wanted to get him back. I didn't actually expect it to happen but it did, and I'm glad!

That's so exciting. Congrats. :)

I see he grew some flight feathers. That's really nice.

Yes, he'll join the cockatiel flock. He spent some time living with them when he was here last winter, and they got along well. They're both mellow species and their beak size is fairly similar so they're not a major danger to each other.

Besides getting a start on his adult plumage, he's developed a lot more personality since then lol. He sings and dances and puts on a show. I don't know how much of his repertoire is his natural sounds and how much was learned from the blue-fronted Amazon he was living with, but he's funny. He still doesn't really know how to step up, but he's starting to get it. I think we'll be good friends after he settles in.

He still doesn't really know how to fly either. His owner brought him to the bird club meeting last month to get his wings clipped which was distressing to me. He hadn't grown in very many wing feathers and obviously still didn't know how to fly. But he could get around well enough that his owner couldn't handle him, and she asked for taming advice which we gave her. I'm surprised at how many wing feathers he's grown just in the last month.

She also said she wasn't sure she could keep him since she was moving, and I told her that if she decided she couldn't do it that I would love to have him. But I didn't expect a decision until July because that's when she's moving. But yesterday she came to the bird club meeting with him, arriving late, and sat down next to me, and I had a feeling right away that I'd be going home with him. It was a while before we could talk about it because the meeting was in progress, but sure enough she was there to give him to me.

Oh my goodness!!! He is a stunning bird. Congratulations Carolyn!
What kind of bird is he? I don't think I knew about you having him before.

He's a Princess of Wales parrot. I babysat him for the bird club from late October to early December. You can see him near the turkey's feet in this Thanksgiving art contest entry:
