in my opinion (and again, it's just my opinion) a bird companion would certainly make him happy as he could be (of course, if they are getting along well). I know that they bond with humans better when there are no other birds around, but again, in my understanding, birds should belong to birds.

If you think like that you could also make a case against holding birds as pets entirely...

I don't think, in this case, getting another bird would be a good thing. As I interpret the situation that would jeopardize the relationship between owner and bird as it is now. Sure the current conure will always like his owner but the second one will probably attach more to the first bird than to the owner. Which leeds to frustrations. Worst case, the birds like eachother too well and don't want to interact with the owner at all. I do not believe we should endanger the current relationship. We need to find the middle road. No relationship can last if one party (the human in this case) has to give it all up for the other (the bird).

But as you stated, Chipper, this is also just my opinion.

for a second, he didn't ask how to make himself happy, he was asking about the parrot, and I think that parrot's perception of happiness can be quite different than people's. I think, it's important that relationship shouldn't be an obsession on the owner's side. In my opinion, birds should be birds, while people should care for each other (and for their pets, of course).
There are many people on this forum (majority) who have more than 1 bird, and who still have good relationships with their birds.

You have a good point Chipper. And I totally agree from a birds point of view. I'm just looking at the big picture in the long run and interpreted the question as such instead of going for the answer to the literal question.

Another bird in this case does not mean happiness for this bird per se. He has been fed by a human and has had no interaction with congeners. The human/bird relationship is all this bird currently knows. I see it more like: "How can a Cow without a tail miss the tail if he never had it to begin with?"

that's exactly what worries me. But I heard that conures often don't get along with another bird. In this case its a different story.

I don't want another bird. Im very happy with one bird. He loves me and i love him and thats all we need right now. Keeping in mind, sun conures are very loud and another bird would mean double the noise, mess, food, toys ect.

You said you have lots of toys for your bird. Do you have any foraging toys?

Foraging toys are toys that you can put treats in, and makes the bird try and figure out how to get it out. It provides very good mental stimulation for smart birds like conures, when you don't want to bother training them, and keeps them occupied, especially when they have a strong food motivation. If you don't want to buy any, It's also possible to make some very simple ones that would still keep your bird entertained. It might be some worth looking into, if you haven't yet.

A word of warning on cockatiels and foraging toys: tiels don't like too much of a challenge. They enjoy having to work a little bit for their food, but if they have to work too hard they'll just give up and go find something that's easier to eat. So don't invest a lot of money on snazzy foraging toys for a cockatiel.

I know. I plan on making something simple, like a pinecone with some millet spray and other treats stuffed in it, or something. Good thing I have a pine tree (though I'm going to have to wash and bake the pinecones beforehand to kill off bugs and bacteria but it's better than nothing).

But I was suggesting it more for CrazyConure's bird though because the original question was how to make her parrot happy. Granted I don't exactly know how conures are with foraging toys, but I'd figure it might keep the bird entertained, because I've heard that conures are smart birds.
