Rio will be molting soon and I want to be fully prepared for it. I know I can give him a bath but I'm talking about cleaning wise. I remember sweeping feathers and they would fly really far in the direction you're sweeping in. Should I vacuum instead? What are some tips and tricks to maintaining a clean environment while they are molting? I have an air purifier running 24/7 right now.

Rocko and Loki are moulting now but they always have feathers flying everywhere and seed all over the floor I vaccum.

With 4 small birds who are constantly on the move, I only vacuum once a week. There's bedding, feathers, wood chips and seed hulls on the carpet but it all cleans easy.

Since you have tile in your room I would just sweep it up with a brush and a dust pan.

Large feathers will probably be easiest to just pick up with your hand. I like to vacuum up smaller feathers and other debris because I think it's the fastest and easiest way to get rid of it. You can use whatever technique works best for you.

He's going to have some lovely large feathers that you may want to keep (I do!) and the rest will sweep up fine.

What type of birds do u own (Cockatiels).

I have three parakeets and my pied cockatiel, Coyote. He's still slowly molting out his baby bars and stripes so I like to save some of those larger feathers because they're pretty and I know I won't see them again.

I saw an old post from talk cockatiels somebody said that if the pied have a solid grey tail feather they are Male is this true Rocko is Pearl pied and has lost lots of his pearls but has no grey tail feathers.

With any cockatiel mutation, males will molt into solid grey tail feathers. The pied mutation slows down the transition though, so pied males may take several years to complete the process.
