In a Shopping Centre theres a shop and they have a African Grey in the window in a small cockatiel sized cage and filthy concrete perches and a filthy cage all together then bird is always sitting on top of the cage outside the cage. And a woman told us that kids do be banging on the window where the grey is and annoying it and trying to get it to talk and stuff.Poor thing im sure he would have loved to see Rocko but Rocko was waiting in the car lol.

It's too bad you can't buy him and bring him home. I don't think Tiko would enjoy that very much...

how much is he?
It could be that he's been there for quite a long time... At least he is not forced to sit inside the cage that is too small.
I rescued a cockatiel (bought at a tiny pet store for the price they were asking) that was there for 3 years, in very poor conditions (when I visited relatives in Russia). I found a local breeder who agreed to take him in, for free of course, and hopefully that breeder took some care of the bird and found him a good home.
But do you know what the sales person did to me before I bought him? I was at the store and got shocked about this bird, I asked them to sell him to me for reduced price because it was obvious that he wasn't selling and the imprisonment was taking too long. She said the owner was on vacation and I never heard back from them. The price was equivalent to about 140 USD - same as Petco sells them in US. Obviously it was too expensive for provincial town on the White sea, people mostly buy budgies there. When I finally came to buy him, I saw that the price tag was not there... And the salespersons tells me that she checked inventory and actually the price is about 30-40 bucks more (that she hoped to put in her pocket). I was totally pissed and talked to her with anger. I even said I was ready to call police (which wouldn't help at all :) . I think I didn't buy him that day because of that price mismatch. I promised to be back, and she'd better have the correct price tag in place. I finally bought him (for original price) and she was so apologetic LOL she even generously allowed me to keep all his belongings - tiny cage with worn out feeders.
The breeder gave him a different cage with different feeders of course... and the cockatiel refused to eat anything for 3 days! By accident, breeder's daughter offered him food in his old awful feeder, and he ate with hunger! I don't know why the breeder didn't know that change of environment and feeders can affect bird this much. I hope he is fine by now.

It would be just fantastic if you could take that grey. Greys are very sensitive birds and should not be subjected to that kind of treatment.

Aww... that's worse.

I drive my daughter to her sport practice 3 times a week. One time I heard a sound that made me look around.. I saw birds in the cage on somebody's balcony on the back of the house (or rather elevated back patio). I thought they were having outdoor time, but then I noticed they are there every time I drive by. I suspect that they live on the balcony full time. The location isn't ideal: the house is at the corner of a heavy-traffic street and a side street that also has lots of traffic. I can't see them very well, but it looks like at least one of them is a cockatiel. I don't say that they are not taken care of, it's just interesting. The cage isn't that huge. I wonder if they ever get out of cage time.

You can certainly talk to the owner and see if they want to give him to you. You know, sometimes people would be happy to get rid of the bird, they just feel obligated to keep taking care of it.
