Not to steal the title topic or anything... :bigsmile100:

I was looking around on a dutch (NL) forum and found a post there that made me want to adopt 7 more tiels!!!

I responded to the post that I have the space to adopt the birds and am willing to do so. But I also added I'm not really looking for more birds. I've sent the current owner a link to my photobucket so they can have an idea of where the birds will be kept.

For anybody willing to see the pictures of the 7 tiels here's the link to the forum: (mind that it is in dutch so appart from the names and years of birth you probably won't make much sense out of it) http://www.valkparkiet.com/sqlforum/index.php/topic,45330.0.html

Short story: The current owner is moving abroad. First he wanted to take his pets with him but there is a longer period of quarantine and then there's the traveling itself. He decided he didn't want to put his birds through all that stress and is looking for a new home, hoping there is a place that will take them all 7 at once. One is very loud and not tame at all, so he says he would like to put that one in an outdoors aviary. Since I have just that I was tempted to offer my aviary as a new home for all 7 tiels.
The current owner responded that he is talking to a girl that already has 16 tiels in a room of the house. He's going to go over there to take a look, but is not keen on the idea of one person looking after 23 tiels inside a house. I guess we'll see how it goes.

I'll keep you posted!

Those are some very pretty birds, and a nice variety of mutations. If you take them all and let them breed, I think that both you and the birds will be very happy.

Note to self: Never let google translate a page. Apparently, "Cockatiel" in dutch translates to "falcon".

They're beautiful birds. I hope you do end up getting them. :)

That's hilarious! The original word in Dutch was valkjes. Apparently Google prefers the word valkparkiet.

Yes, 'valkjes' translates to little falcons. But we like to refer to our cockatiels as 'valkjes' much like in english we use 'tiels' instead of cockatiels. :roffle: It's becaurse the diminutive (what 'valkjes' is from 'valk' - and 'valk' = 'falcon') makes them sound even more cute than what they are...

I just answered some questions the current owner has concerning my aviary. Since his tiels are used to being in a large cage indoors...

The beauty of the birds and the mix he has were the main reason for me to make him the offer.

But where I stand now is second (or even later) in line. I really hope I get them, but I'll understand if he waits and sees if he can find an owner that will spend more time with them indoors.

About breeding them... I don't know yet... The current owner does point out to me there are 3 couples there. One couple is brother and sister (the tiels in the middle picture on the outer edges) The other couple are the parents in the picture underneath and the last couple is the middle tiel in the third picture and the 2nd picture.
Or if you get the names: Timon with Iago as the first couple - Ed and Shenzi who are children of Babbel and Pumba as the 2nd and 3rd couple.

I like Pumba the most if we're talking looks. He's the white-faced tiel from 2009 in the fourth picture.

@ JessiMuse, anything you want me to translate for you or did you get the general idea in spite of google translate?

For some reason, google doesn't translate the sentences in between the pictures. So can you translate these phrases?

Quote:

Babbel (2009 pop links) en Pumba (2009 man rechts). Beiden zijn erg rustig.

Quote:
Uit hetzelfde nest komt ook Banzai (2012 pop). Banzai is het schuchterst en kan soms flink krijsen. Ik denk dat zij het best tot haar recht komt in een volière.

Quote:
Ik hoop dat iemand mij kan helpen.

Iago (2006) is the oldest female. She had 2 nests with Zazu at my place, but allas, Zazu died. Iagu is now a couple with Timon (2010). Iago is very calm, but she does bite now and again. Timon likes to whistle.

In the picture above you can also see Ed (2010 male left) and Shenzi (2012 female right). They are brother and sister, but form a couple. Ed is the smaller one, but also the bolder one of the two. Shenzi is a very calm, easygoing tiel.

In the picture underneath are the parents of Ed and Shenzi. Babbel (2009 female left) and Pumba (2009 male right). Both are very calm.

From the same nest we also have Banzai (2012 female). Banzai is the most coy of them but has a tendensy to screech a lot. I think she'll fit in best in an aviary.

At first I wanted to answer with a plain YES. But that wouldn't have gotten us anywhere now would it  :bigsmile100:
