Dont listen to them. I got told same thing when i told a caique group that i rehomed my last caique n that was saving for new one. Geuss 5yr gap meant nothing, or fact that i was never home, she was plucking because my sister wasent caring 4 her, that i was under alot of emotional stress. You are doing what is best for all your birds, sometimes doing whats best for them is finding them a new home. *hugs*

Thanks and you did the right thing and they think that the new bird wont get along with the tiels and that I will end up rehoming him too but I wont its different for a aggressive bird not to get along with them but Plum headed parakeets are gentle birds and he is housed with cockatiels so he would kinda understand them and if they didnt get along its not like they would hurt each other like what Rio was doing.

You're rehoming Rio for safety reasons and for the sake of his own happiness, and I don't think there's anything irresponsible about that. He was a danger to Rocko and was in danger from Tiko. To keep everyone safe, Rio would have to spend a lot more time in the cage which would not be a good life for him. There's no guarantee that things work out better with the plumhead, because there's never any guarantee with any new bird. But you ARE doing what you can to make sure you get a bird that will get along well with your existing flock, so the chances are good that it will be OK.

Im changing my bedroom into a bird room so ill have perches attached to the walls and stuff and my room is completely bird safe one of the members from Talk cockatiels suggested that too she recommends the plum head live in my bedroom with the tiels. And I think it would he irresponsible for me to keep Rio.

I did a little reading about plum heads, and it says they're very active birds so it's good for them to have a lot of out of cage time. It's good for them to have a large cage too. IF he gets along well with the tiels, then treating your bedroom like an indoor aviary is a good way to give him what he needs. You do need to be prepared for the possibility that he won't get along with the cockatiels, and have a Plan B for if that happens.

They're usually gentle but can be aggressive when they're hormonal, so you need to be prepared for that. They need to be handled frequently to keep them tame. They're closely related to Indian ringnecks, which are also a species that needs frequent handling. It looks like their body size is a bit smaller than a cockatiel, although the weights that I see on the internet vary so much that I don't know how accurate they are. I'm seeing everything from 55 grams to 90 grams. Something in the middle of that might be the most accurate.

I made a screen door for my bird room so I can keep the birds inside without having to close the solid door. That's VERY useful. I used quick-release hinges so I can easily take this door off when I want to.

I think theyre a little bigger than tiels a small bit they look small when puffed up too.If they dont get along they will have plenty of space to get away from each other and his cage will only be used for sleeping.I have a picture of the one im getting ill post it now.

It's difficult to find much information when you have an uncommon species. I have the same problem with Dweezil, there just isn't a whole lot of information about POWs out there.

While I was looking for information on plumheads, it was useful to search for plum-headed parakeet but also to add one other word to help the results focus in on the exact thing I was looking for. For example I did several different searches adding a word like personality, diet, weight, cage size, that sort of thing. By doing several different searches like this, some websites will show up in the top results that didn't turn up just by searching on plum-headed parakeet without any other descriptive words.
