No I couldn't, he was always trying to fly away, if I didn't cut his wings he would've left or have gotten hurt.

Some houses are safer than others for a bird that is untame and fully flighted. You did what was most appropriate for your circumstances and that's OK. If you want him to be fully flighted later on you can let the wing feathers grow back.

Budgies are pretty smart, so I'm not surprised he caught on so quickly. Since yours is a male, expect him to learn to talk... A lot.

I love Disco! But he's an English budgie, I don't know if normal budgies can also learn to speak.

English budgies and American budgies are all the same species. The English budgies have been selectively bred to look different and the American budgies are more wildtype but they're all the same bird. American budgies are healthier and longer lived because their breeding hasn't tampered with nature so much.

The world record holder for talking parrots is a budgie, with a vocabulary of over 1700 words. And he was an American budgie. http://naturesscrapbook.blogspot.com/20 ... world.html

There's no guarantee that your bird will learn to talk, but he might. Disco is famous because he's exceptionally good at it.

Oh, I thought these were different birds. And that the English budgie was able to speak better. I was wrong.

It's sort of like the situation with dogs. There are a lot of special dog breeds that have been created over the years using selective breeding. They look very different from each but they're all the same species and can breed successfully with each other.
