Too bad for her. If she wants the millet she has to step up! If she starts biting, put the millet away and stop asking for step ups. If you keep on going you're basically asking her to bite you, and that's not what you want to teach her lol.

The last of my cockatiel babies left the nest yesterday so now I have fledgling insanity in my bird room. They're basically toddlers with wings, and I have eight of them flapping around causing chaos.

Lol, toddler with wings causing chaos! Wonder if it would be more chaos with a real toddler WITH wings!

Definitely. Human toddlers are much bigger than baby birds so they can spread a lot more destruction.

Lol, that reminds me of my little cousin she also causes destruction around my house when she comes over like she broke one of the wii disc.

Actually when I said stepped up 3x it was actually 5x because I did one more session time after I replied. But yesterday was only 3x step up for Kaylee.

When I tried with Sunshine , he wouldn't step up except when I push his abdomen , but only 1 foot will come up. I gave him a treat for that anyways . I tried it again hoping for two feet, instead he fell down instead of stepping up.
( you know how when you push the abdomen, the bird loses balance and has to step up to regain balance)
So I started from scratch by putting a piece of millet spray on my hand for him to try and reach it and eventually step up.

Most birds don't "get it" at first so you do have to push on the abdomen to show them the right direction. He'll figure it out eventually.

The chicks don't understand step ups at all . I have to slide my whole hand under them with a couple of fingers in front of their legs and a couple of fingers behind the legs (because babies tend to back up when they're nervous). Then I lift my whole hand up until the feet let go of the perch and climb onto the hand. It usually takes a few days for them to start stepping up on a finger that's held out in front of them, and some of the older chicks have already figured it out. This technique might not work for an older bird, since they would tend to move away from the hand when you start to slide it under them, instead of standing there letting you do whatever you want. Babies are more submissive than adults.

I was hoping for him to watch Kaylee, when she stepped up I would show it to .

If he's in the same room he'll see what's going on, and it will help him learn that it's safe to do it. He still might go slowly though, birds are naturally cautious.

Ohhh, I learn something new everyday! BTW, I tried that millet in my hand and then pushing his foot that is on my right side.. Then he would put 1 foot up, he will only put up his left foot! I suppose he's a lefty then.I tried pushing his abdomen which finally made him step up with 2 feet, but he would take his right foot off quickly.
Kaylee is doing good, steppin up about 8 times.

PS I tried to paste a photo of them in the cage from my mom's phone, but I can't cut and paste.

They say that most birds are lefties. Basically the reverse of how it is with humans.

You can't paste a photo into a thread, the forum doesn't work that way (neither does any other forum that I've ever seen). You need to put the photo online somewhere; lots of people use the free accounts that are available at photobucket.com. Then when you're writing a message, you hit the Img button above the message box and paste the url for the link into that.

Interesting ! So Sunshine , he improved a bit so when ever the food is out of his reach he usually steps up himself ,but of course only his left foot.
