Egg #1 hatched last night. Baby was moving. Today down looks white., baby looks good. Am expecting cinnamon babies. So does the white down mean the baby is cinnamon?

White down means whiteface.



What mutations are they parents? We may find out what mutation you can possibly get from this clutch, maybe even his/her sex.

Thank you for the picture. I had seen it before but could not find it last night. this is going to be a mystery in that neither of the parents are visually whiteface. But I do have another male who is whiteface which makes me wonder if he also got in the act. Would she have mated with both males?

Can you post a picture of both of the parents? They can produce a whiteface baby if they are both split to whiteface.

A threesome can happen with cockatiels.

White down means whiteface, but it's possible that the baby is cinnamon whiteface. The eye color can provide hints about whether the baby is cinnamon, but the cinnamon eye color is variable and it's not always possible to tell the difference between cinnamon eyes and dark eyes.

Chick #2 is here, pale yellow down. I haven't been able to fully see either chick yet today as Roscoe not letting me near the chicks or egg. Hopefully when she goes in for the night I will be able to get a closer look.

Had chicks out of nestbox tonight. Chick #1 weighed 11 grams and had full crop. Chick #2 weighed 8 grams and crop was just about full. They had beaks open and were moving. Mom and Dad must be doing OK. They (Bitsy & Roscoe) were actually eating their soft food in the cage today. I have been giving them some of their favorities to get them use to eating soft foods in the cage. I am not sure if one or both are eating their seeds but I see evidence of them being eaten. I am giving them nutriberries as well.

Those are good weights - about three grams heavier than the average for my babies at the same age actually. Although I've had individual babies that weighed that much. You may see some dramatic fluctuations from day to day depending on how recently the chick had been fed when you weighed it. But as long as the overall trend shows a steady weight gain, everything is fine.

Well I figured since they had food in their crop they were lighter. I probably will try to take them out at the same time each day. Today I wanted to wait until my granddaughter was back from running erronds with her Dad. She has been so excited and really good about us only taking them out one time. As they get older we will handle them more but I want Bitsy and Roscoe to get use to us handling them. It does seem to stress them a little bit but we only keep them out for a few minutes. I also don't want to risk getting them cold. I run some warm water in a glass dish and then put a tight woven towel in the dish so that I only handle one at a time.
