How are they doing today? We need frequent updates until we're sure everything will turn out OK!

They're quiet today and haven't done anything but sleep. Actually, haven't eaten much today.

It might be a good idea to talk to the vet on the phone and ask if this is normal or if there should be more improvement by now. If things are on track it'll be reassuring to know that, and if it's not on track you'll know that some kind of adjustment is needed.

How are you? All this must be very hard on you. My little people and I send a lot of good thoughts! They don't pray, little pagans they are :-)

Well, of course I got sick over it. Any stressor and it knocks me down. But thank you for asking. That's very sweet of you.

Alright. Here's a more decent update besides "unchanged from yesterday":

Beaker has a much improved feather condition, although his weight is unchanged and still looks scrawny. Jaid definitely hasn't vomited in a few days, which is super. But his feathers are very scruffy and look like crap. He also bruised underneath one of his toes somehow, so I added yet another rope perch and another flat, which he still refuses to use. And I am happy to report that they are munching frequently. B still has short bursts of energy then tucks and crashes. Jaid has nothing like that. He looks worse than B at the moment, although Beaker has taken a liking to Gatorade and sips on it throughout the day, with some water. Jaid doesn't seem to drink it freely like Beak. I wonder if that is the reason Beaker has more bursts of energy than Jaid. However, lately, their poop has been long, not a lot, but sticky, and line shaped. Is the medicine upsetting their bellies in any way?

On a much more positive and unrelated note, Beck and Poppy have now become best buddies. I didn't think they liked each other, so it makes me happy to see my original intention worked.

It sounds like they're slowly getting better which is good, although we all wish they would do it faster! Don't worry about the scruffy feather condition, that's probably just a lack of preening - sick birds tend to skimp on grooming and personal hygiene. His feathers will probably look good again once he starts maintaining them better, and if not then they'll look better after he molts.

It's very possible that the medicine is upsetting their digestion a little, or that the change in their eating habits has caused a change in the poop. As long as they're digesting a reasonable amount of food and not having severely abnormal poop, they're probably OK.

It's possible that they might bruise more easily right now, due to the temporary malnutrition and general health problems. Medicines can have side effects, so that might be a factor too.

Are you letting them out of the cage for a little play time? That might help stimulate their interest in life, as long as it's not strenuous and you avoid situations where they might hurt themselves.

Yes, indeed. They come out whenever Beaker has his energy spikes. I don't think it's fair for them to have bars in front of their face everyday, even if they're sick. They just sit under their lamp, but at least they're out. Sometimes I move them to sit on my bed with me.

The bed is a great place for them to hang out. It's a nice big soft surface where they're not likely to get in trouble, and they get to spend quality time with their favorite person!
