yes, the baby is ok. i think that's what happened...... i feel so bad for this little baby......he is so weak and cold. i have him bundled up in a towel close to a portable heater.

no, i don't have access to a avian vet. that's why im so frantic! i gave him about 1 cc of coconut water, should i give him more? that theory is possible..... he has been in a towel beside a heater all night...but i thought he'd be warm enough. i mean, i would sleep with him, but that would be very dangerous, as i toss and turn a lot!

We do have a heating pad! My mom just said she thinks it will get too hot. She thinks I'm doing everything wrong which is really frustrating. The baby is still continuousely opening its beak...any idea what it could be?

I am so thankful I'm homeschooled! If I was in public school I don't know how this would be going.

Is the baby breathing normally? As long as it's breathing OK, the situation isn't too dire. It's possible that the baby has a little bit of food in its throat (not in the windpipe) and it's annoying, just like it is when you have something caught in your throat. An adult bird will stretch its neck up when this happens and open the beak like it's yawning. With a small baby, you can put them in the nest to let the parents/siblings keep them warm. But that won't work at this age - the parents stopped brooding a long time ago and the babies have stopped clumping together. A hot water bottle or rubber glove can be used to provide heat. This is one of Susanne's collages:
