I was preparing tea and Keith was around, being nosey.
As soon as I poured the hot water in the mugs he jumped straight in. His intention was to perch on the rim but he slipped, ending up with one foot, a little bit of the leg and his tummy inside the mug :-(
He screamed like a man on fire until I fished him out which happened within a millisecond.
He flew in circles for about a minute then perched on me.
I examined him, touched all the body but he didn't scream.
His foot is very very warm and he is licking it.
I am worried that the hot water might have damaged something internally.
The foot is same colour as the other, and the skin seems OK.
Should I put something on it?
I will monitor him and I would like to know what are the signs of internal injury.
Poor my boy :-( I feel so bad!

Oh my! How horrible.
Maybe he should see a vet?

I think he's fine Barabra. A similar incident happened when I took some (VERY) hot tea in my room (yes, I also like herbal tea, I know I'm weird). Gracie flew to my dresser where I had set the tea and tried to drink some. She slipped and flew off like a torpedo! Anyway, she was fine, and I'm SURE my water was hotter than yours.

It's too late to help now, but for future reference you should run a minor burn under cool (not cold) water for 10-15 minutes. You can also wrap the burn in a cool compress or just immerse it in cool water. It reduces inflammation and eases some of the pain.

Aloe gel might help take some of the pain away, but only put some on if the skin is unbroken and a normal temperature and color. So long as it doesn't blister or swell badly it's a minor burn. If it's blistering, swelling, oozing, or gets blotchy and red I'd seek a vet. Also watch him for signs of shock.

Thank you cknauf, that's useful information, I wish I knew it.
I remember burning my hand once and putting it under cold water, after I did that the pain was unbearable. Probably I used water that was too cold.
I think he was a little in shock, it was such a horrible surprise! But he was his usual self after about half an hour. He licked his foot for about three hours, poor baby :(
I hope he's gonna be ok, my vet only works on Wednesdays and I'd have to use a generic vet which isn't good enough.

I have an aloe plant: since his skin isn't broken, would it be a good idea to cut a leaf and put some gel on the foot? I never used aloe this way before.

Oh, I do hope he's doing okay.
I am a big tea drinker. This is definitely a cautionary tale we can all learn from.
Please keep us posted. I will be thinking about your little Keith.

If you put something on the foot, he'll probably just try to eat or take it off.

Yep, you can snap off an aloe leaf and cut it in half to scrape out the gel. Rub some into his foot--he will lick it, but it won't hurt him to ingest a little bit.
