I have assigned this post to be an ongoing training journal for the budgies, to reflect on the positives and negatives. And, to know when the last place we left off.
So therefore, let us start today. They are in my room due to a massive heat wave in the greenroom and that was the only place their cage could be. They finally left their cage, which was open for 2 days, and they were both sitting on their cage. I spoke to them a little on the opposite side on the cage and left to get some millet for them. We are out, so instead I got a broccoli floret. Poppy loves broccoli and he went over to nibble it. Beck took off and Poppy did too. Poppy landed closer to me and chatted to me for a while Beck nibbled the broccoli. I left them alone after that. I think that's a good start.

That's an excellent start! When they choose the activity themselves you know they're comfortable with it. You can encourage them to do things sometimes, but you don't want to be too pushy.

Poppy looks tremendously obese in that picture, but he and Beck just finished some Nutriberries for being good and coming to me.

Today I laid my hand on a perch in the cage and left it in there for 15 minutes. I got what I call a 'cage hickey' on my arm from resting part of my arm on a wire. They both started to feel comfortable and trill.
