He does this for hours, sometimes.
I don't understand what he's looking for when he's pacing and screeching that way!
It's not a constant behaviour, he is usually quite a happy chap, but sometimes he starts this pacing, screech, turn, pacing etc etc and there is not much I can do to interrupt it.

Any ideas? I am a bit lost, never seen this behaviour before.

That's very interesting behavior. I don't know what it means. Maybe he is really excited? He is beautiful.

Is this Sammy, your new bird? If so, I think it's probably adjustment to the new environment. I think he's looking for something that used to be familiar in his old environment.

My Emma did something similar when I first got her. In the evening, she would get up to the top of the cage (inside) and climb around and around it calling. It lasted a few days.

His screeching spooked my flock lol.

This sort of behavior usually indicates that the bird wants to go somewhere but doesn't have a way to do it. In the case of a new bird it often means that they want to leave the situation entirely and go back to their old familiar home.

I don't know if it was really happening or if it's just a camera sound, but there was a continuous sound in the background sort of like running water. Maybe this disturbs him somehow, or maybe he even wants to the source of the sound.

Tielfan, the noise you heard was probably the air purifier. That's the only constant noise and I usually keep at the minimum.
I agree with you that he seems to be wanting to go somewhere else and he feels he can't.
The home where he comes from loved him to bits, but the constant screeching was too much to bear. They tried everything. He started screeching constantly last year, I asked what could have happened to make him change so much and the only thing that happened was that they lost a dog Sam was quite attached to.
His screeching has gone down a lot since he arrived here, but he still does that thing on the video, at least twice a day.

He definitely calms down if I take him with me outside the bird room, but only if I take one or two birds out too.
He doesn't seem happy to be on his own outside the bird room and will start flock calling

It sounds like maybe he gets overwhelmed in the bird room sometimes and wants to go back to his old home. He hasn't had time to bond with you yet and feels comforted by having a bird or two with him. I don't know whether he would enjoy a 'time out' in the cage with the cage covered for less stimulation (and maybe a bird or two in there with him for companionship), but you could try it and see how he responds.

Oh, poor Sam! Keep us posted. I think, with time, he will settle in and adjust.

I could also move his cage in my bedroom/living room, and see how he reacts if I put another bird with him in his cage. Then once or twice a day take him and his companion to the bird room. I think it would be easier than putting him in his cage in the bird room because until it's night time he doesn't want to go in.
