I decided that I want to grow my own carrot tops. I feel like this would be a great project since they make a nice house plant, and my birds get to eat 'em. I am growing two, one with carrot root sitting in a shallow bowl of water, and the other one is sitting in a bowl with cotton balls on the bottom with a few drop of water in it. They are both getting sunlight. I have seen many articles on different ways you can do it so I am making a little experiment on which one will be more successful. Once I find out, I will use that technique. I will update with pictures on their growth rate.

I've never tried the cotton ball technique so it'll be interesting to see how it turns out. The 'sitting in water' technique always ends up in a tiny leaf and a rotten orange carrot for me.

Thanks! Have you tried putting the carrot in the sun? That could be a possibility. I have seen a video on YouTube and it looks like it turned rotten as well. But then again, I have seen pictures on google and the carrot looked nice and orange.

Mostly I put it on the window sill which gets indirect light, but I've tried putting it outdoors in direct sunlight too.

I wonder why it doesn't work for you. I can't put mine outside. The lizards will just eat it like they did to my plants I grew before.

I'm not sure if they will eat the carrot tops since I never had expirence with growing them outdoors. But they certainly like tomatoe leaves. The lizards are very sneaky, they run when they see me. The lizards like to hang out in the bird aviary. It's interesting to see them puff out their red chest after bobbing their heads. You catch lizards?

Catch and breed. It's fun. I like to do it because raccoons and cats have been killing them. They keep the bugs around my garden at bay.

Very interesting! They don't eat any of your plants, right? We have a ton of lizards here.
