I agree with everything Barbara has posted...
Get a phone number of a good avian vet, you never know when it may be useful.
If you ignore posts that's up to you, but we are only trying to help, we all need to heed advise on times , whether we are old or young..
Good luck.

The problem here is that this is a kid living with his parents who is too young to drive, and his mother barely tolerates him having birds in the first place and doesn't think vets are worthwhile because it would be cheaper to buy a new bird. Yes it would be desirable to go to the vet, but he can't do it if his parents won't let him. Maybe they'll let him make his own decision when he has his own transportation and doesn't have to bother them for a ride, but until then he has to do what the adults say.

What the parents MIGHT let him do though is to fix up that aviary so that accidents like this don't happen again. Best get on it soon though - summer is slipping away and it'll be harder to do it after school starts.

Thank you Carolyn!
I wasn't intending to ignore your posts, that's the least I was trying to do. I have explained about the vet situation over 1,000 times. I even explained it on this thread. Sometimes, it's hard for me to explain the same thing over and over again. You guys should probably know my situation by now and Carolyn already gave you the most detailed explanation. I would never judge a person by their age, Jan. I was a little upset that you thought I did. If I judged a persons advise by their age, I would never would have learned so much about birds. My mom said yes to the aviary idea.

I don't want to be reminded about this whole vet situation again. It's already hard living in a world where your whole relatives couldn't care less about what you love and to top it off, I am being told that I am on purposely ignoring your posts. It's sometimes hard for a person with depression to answer these types of posts.

Never mind, I hope I answered your questions. I sometimes feel like I should just quit bird owning.

I'm sorry for jumping on your throats, I know you guys didn't intend to be rude in any way, so I'm sorry for going crazy on you guys. I hope you can forgive me.

I think all the advice and suggestions here were well intended, but everyone has constraints and limitations that they have to live with. It's OK to have different opinions and disagreements as long as they're expressed in a reasonable way without nastiness, and I think we've had that here.

There are some people who simply can't go to a vet, and some people who will say that if you can't go to a vet you shouldn't have pets. As far as I know, no one here has an opinion that strong. My own opinion is that you should go to a vet when needed if you're able to, but if you're not able to then you have to do the best you can within your limitations and I'll do what I can to help. If being able to go to a vet was a criterion for pet ownership, I wouldn't have had any pets as a kid and my life would have been a lot poorer as a result.

Your mother agreed to the aviary project!?!?!?! Woohoo!!

:fireworks: :cheery: :fireworks:

What's the summer weather like in your area? I know the heat can be brutal in some parts of Florida, but if it's anything like California then the weather is more moderate the closer you are to the coast. My son lives two miles from the shore in Los Angeles, and the temperature is somewhere close to 75 degrees (F) pretty much all the time, day or night, winter or summer.

If there are heat issues you do need to plan the work schedule to fit the weather. You don't want to kill your grandfather or yourself by toiling away in the hot sun. Here in Arizona the summer heat is a HUGE issue and people who don't respect that tend to end up getting heatstroke.

I agree. Animals living in the wild don't have vet services. We do the best we can for our animals, within what our limitations are.

I really care about you Baruch, and I know you love your birds and are doing what you can.

At least you can look forward to the day when you are on your own and can make all these decisions.

I suffer from depression too. I know how hard it can be.

Yes, my mom said yes to the aviary idea. She gave some great ideas as well. Thank you Dianne, it's great that there are some people that can relate to you here.

Those temperatures look WONDERFUL to me, but you guys have to deal with super high humidity too which makes a huge difference. Out here we whine that we're dying from the terrible humidity if it goes up to 30%. We can take the heat but only if it's a dry heat lol.

Your grandfather can probably contribute some great ideas for the aviary too if you talk to him about the sort of things that you need. He's the practical builder and might think of things that you didn't, once he knows a little about the practical necessities of birdkeeping. He'll probably be more interested in your birds afterward too, wanting to know how well they're getting along in the aviary he helped design.

Are you going to remodel the old aviary or build a brand new one?

Thanks for the input

I'm going to build a new one. The current wood has spores and I don't want to deal with fungus ever couple of weeks. The floor is also cracked really deep and we are going to need to take the whole thing apart so we can use something more sturdier for the floor. It would also be helpful if we can make doors so I can put the food bowls from the outside. The birds won't be able to poop on it anymore.
